Short bio
Death To Indie is a high-octane four-piece punk assault on modern musical complacency. Stripping away polished production and indie-pop pretense, the band delivers an uncompromising wall of sound defined by raw energy, aggressive guitar riffs, fast-paced rhythms, and relentless live shows. Known for turning quiet rooms into chaotic sweatboxes within seconds, Death To Indie brings classic hardcore velocity mixed with modern punk grit to every stage they take.
Full bio
Death To Indie was formed in early 2011 as a direct reaction to the sterile, over-produced landscape dominating local underground circuits. Founding members Michael Jax (vocals and guitar) and Mark Rayner (Bass) began writing blistering two-minute anthems, driven by a mutual desire to bring genuine danger and unbridled kinetic energy back to live punk-rock music.
With the addition of power-house drummer Ricci McElwee and Guitarist Ali Graves, the lineup was locked. The band spent their first six months playing local and national venues, building an instantly devoted cult following before ever releasing a studio recording.
Drawing heavy inspiration from UK punk and rock (The Wildhearts, Manic Street Preachers, The Clash), American Pop-Punk (Minor Threat, Offspring), and Post-Melodic Hardcore (Rise Against, Descendants), Death To Indie crafts a sound that is both historically rooted and urgently contemporary.
From their debut self-titled EP, released in 2013, to the 2020 album ‘Better late than clever’, the band's songwriting has evolved to incorporate tighter arrangements, harsher dynamics, and socio-politically charged lyrics that critique psuedo-capitalism, urban decay, and cultural conformity.
Press
“From their birth in 2011, this band have gone from strength to strength, performing around the North East and throughout the UK, gaining a loyal and enthusiastic following along the way”
“A ferocious throwback to real punk rock—fast, unapologetic, and completely lacking a filter. Their latest EP hits like a sledgehammer.”
“In an era of synth-pop and polished acoustics, Death To Indie is the loud, obnoxious reality check guitar music desperately needed.”
“For me this band reminds me of others such as ANTI FLAG and PENNYWISE and they certainly have the same kind of high octane energy and love for the music as such bands”
